Reflection
This assignment really made me stretch my ideas about writing. I am more of a reflection type of a writer. This assignment called on me to be very analytical and scientific in my thinking. Even though when I started this project a month ago I was sure that my paper would turn out boring, I found that the more information I gathered the more interested I became about the subject. The more interested I became the more interesting the paper sounded.
My biggest struggle was finding credible sources. Cyclone Phailin only happened a few months ago so the internet is flooded with news sites and contradicting information. I found myself researching every fact multiple times and would only put it in my paper if I found three or more sites that agreed. This however caused my work cited pages to be very long.
The instruction given was to write at least 6 pages of text before adding any pictures. By the time I added my cover page, pictures, and work cited the whole document ended up being 12 pages long. This is after I cut out anything I didn’t feel was absolutely necessary to the data. My only regret is that I picked an event that happened so recently. I would have liked to have been able to research some data on the long term effects as well as the effects on the two major storms that have hit India since this one to see what types of damage India has suffered ecologically.
